Know about the Golden Girl of India : Hima Das

Known as the India’s ‘Dhing Express’, Hima is an Indian sprint runner from the state of Assam. Born at Kandhulimari village, near the town of Dhing in the state of Assam, this girl has grabbed consecutive five gold medals in running race over the last month. Hence, she is named the Golden Girl of India.

She won her first gold medal on July 2, 2019 in the Poznan Athletics Grand Prix in Poland by winning her first competitive 200m race of the year. She took 23.65 seconds to complete here 200m race.

Hima grabbed her second international gold in women’s 200m at the Kutno Athletics Meet in Poland on July 7, 2019. She completed the 200m race in 23.97 seconds.

The 19 year old girl, won her third gold in 11 days came at the Kladno Memorial Athletics Meet in Czech Republic on July 13, 2019. She took 23.43 seconds to win the gold.

She grabbed her fourth gold when she once again won the 200m race at the Tabor Athletics Meet in the Czech Republic on July 17, 2019. She completed her 200m race in 23.25 seconds.

She clinched her fifth gold of the month in her 400-metre race in Czech Republic on Saturday, July 20, 2019. She took 52.09 seconds on the clock to won the gold.

Apart from this, Hima is the current Indian national record holder in 400 metres with a timing of 50.79 seconds at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia. She is the first Indian athlete to win a gold medal in a track event at the IAAF World U20 Championships.

Whole nation is proud of her for her record holding achievement. The President of India, Mr. Kovind and the Prime Minister of India, Mr. Modi, has congratulated Hima on her victory.
