Pratibha Patil honored with Mexico's Highest Civilian Award

Former President of India, Mrs. Pratibha Patil was honoured with the highest civilian award of Mexico for foreigners. At a special ceremony held in MCCIA Bhavan, Pune onSaturday, June 01, 2019, the ambassador of Mexico to India, Melba Pria, presented 'Orden Mexicana del Aguila Azteca' (Order of the Aztec Eagle) to Patil.

Pratibha Patil has served as the first woman President of India during 2007-12. Accoring to her, when she was president, a mutual agreement was signed between Mexico and India. Both the countries have emphasised on enhancing friendly relationship and this award is the symbol of such strong and friendly relation between the countries.

According to Pria, this civilian award was started in 1993 by Alberto L. Rodriguez. This award is given to the leaders of chief countries and the ambassadors of Mexico. Along with Dr Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan, 13 Indians had received this honor in different categories. Earlier, Dr. Nelson Mandela, Queen Elizabeth II (2nd), Bill Gates were honored with this award. Pratibha Patil is the first Indian woman to receive the award.
