#BeatAirPollution: World Environment Day 2019

The theme for the year 2019 is 'Beat Air Pollution'.

World Environment Day is an initiative by the United Nations launched in an attempt to effectively combat problems of environmental degradation. It is celebrated annually on June 05. Every year this day has different theme choosen by the country that hosts the main event for the World Environment Day.

This year in 2019, China is hosting the World Environment Day and has given the theme  'Beat Air Pollution'. The scheduled main event for this year is the 'Mask Challenge'. The UN has requested people around the globe to select any task to reduce air pollution, take photo while doing the task wearing mask and upload on the social media. They have also request other individuals and organization that they want them to involved in the task. People have started taking part in this initiative to save our environment.

The UN started to celebrate this day in 1974 and now 143 countries annually takes part in the event. This day is obeerved to raise awareness about the Environmental issues from global warming, air pollution, water pollution and other human activities.

In India Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Ram Nath Kovind tweeted on World Environment Day 2019.

In 2018, India hosted the World Environment Day with the theme 'Beat plastic Pollution'. It was focused on overcoming and reducing the widespread use of plastic.
