Check the two latest updates from Google:Password Checkup and Cross Account Protection

Today as we all are surrounded by data everywhere, everyone is concerned about its secureness. Hackers misuse the latest technologies to steal our data for their selfish purposes. To overcome this problem, Google has introduced two latest security updates, Password Checkup and Cross Account Protection on 'Safer Internet Day'.

"We’re always working to make sure your data is protected, whether you’re using Google products or checking out your favorite websites and apps.", Kurt Thomas and Adam  Dawes wrote in a blog published on February 5, 2019.

Google Chrome Apps

Here's how it will help you to protect your Accounts :

Password Checkup
This update will provide data breach protection for the accounts beyond Google apps and sites. 'Password Checkup' is the chrome extension that will help to achieve this. The extension will trigger an automatic warning and will suggest you to change your password, if it detect that your site's username and password is one of the 4 billion credentials that have been hacked. While using Password Checkup no one can learn your account details, not even Google.
This is the first version extension and Google will update this in coming months. The cryptography researchers at Google and Stanford University have developed this Password Checkup extension.

Cross Account Protection

Currently, the account protection, which is provided for the Google Account, is not reachable to the apps or the sites which you sign into using Google account. This will be achieved by 'Cross Account Protection' update. For this to work, your apps and sites need to implement this extension. This will send the basic information about the security events like an account hijacking. This will be applicable only to the sites and apps which you have logged in through Google Account.
Google has developed this extension along with Adobe, and the standards community at the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) and OpenID Foundation.

Both the updates will improve the security for the accounts not just on Google but across the Internet.
