Google pays homage to the Marilyn Monroe of Bollywood 'Madhubala' on her 86th Birth Anniversary

Google honoured Bollywood's late actress Madhubala on her 86th
birth anniversary, with a colorful doodle with her dance pose.

Born on February 14, 1933 in Delhi, Madhubala was popularly
known as 'The Marilyn Monroe of Bollywood' and 'The Beauty
with Tragedy'. Her real name was Mumtaz Jehan Begum Dehlavi. Her
father was Ataullah Khan and mother was Aayesha Begum. She appeared in the
minor role at the age of 9 in her debut film Basant in 1942. Her actual career
was started at the age of 14 in 1947 when she was casted with Raj Kapoor in the
film Neel Kamal. Later, on the advice from actress Devika Rani who was
impressed by Madhubala's acting, she changed her name to 'Madhubala'. She
was married to famous playback
singer, actor, lyricist, composer, producer, director and screenwriter Kishore
Kumar at the age of 27.

Madhubala was photographed for the Life Magazine by a
Hollywood photographer James Burke and hence is said to be the first Indian
woman in hollywood. In a 22 years of career in bollywood, she acted in about 70
films but only 15 films were successful. Her work was marked by her role as
'Anarkali' in "Mughal-e-azam" with the co-star Dilip Kumar, for which
she was nominated for a Filmfare Award.
Madhubala suffered from Congenital heart disease due to which she died on February 23, 1969, at the age of 36. Although she had done very powerful roles in the bollywood, she never received any awards. She will be remembered for her roles in the films like Mahal(1949), Howrah Bridge(1958), Chalti ka Naam Gadi(1958), Mughal-e-azam(1960), Half-ticket(1962) and many more.
